Elevate Your Muffin Game with Delightful Perfection! š«š§

Not to be dramatic, but this is one of my all time favorite recipes! It is so good & always has my family begging for more. The muffin is light and fluffy with beautiful blueberry swirls. The topping - don't even get me started on the topping - it is crunchy, sweet, and all-around showstopping. For these muffins, I would not judge you if you ate the top first! So let's dive right into this recipe!
Ingredients:
Melted unsalted butter - Using melted unsalted butter in this recipe offers several advantages. It provides control over the salt content, ensures a uniform texture throughout the muffins, enhances the overall taste with its richer flavor, and adds moisture for a tender and delicious final product.
Granulated sugar -Ā Granulated sugar is used in this recipe because it dissolves easily, incorporating smoothly into the batter. This helps create a uniform texture in the muffins. Additionally, granulated sugar provides sweetness and moisture, contributing to the muffins' overall taste and tenderness.
Eggs -Ā Eggs are a crucial ingredient in this recipe because they act as a binding agent, helping to hold the muffins together and giving them structure. They also contribute to the muffins' texture, making them moist and tender. Additionally, eggs provide richness and help the muffins rise during baking, resulting in a light and fluffy texture.
Vanilla extract - Pure vanilla extract is used in this recipe to enhance the flavor of the muffins. It adds a rich, aromatic vanilla flavor that complements the sweetness of the chocolate chips. The pure extract provides a more intense and authentic vanilla taste compared to artificial extracts, enhancing the overall quality of the muffins.
Sour cream or Greek yogurt - Sour cream or Greek yogurt is used in this recipe to add moisture and richness to the muffins. They help create a tender texture and add a subtle tangy flavor that complements the sweetness of the chocolate chips. Additionally, sour cream and Greek yogurt contain acidity, which can react with the baking powder to help the muffins rise and achieve a light and fluffy texture.
Milk -Ā Milk is used in this recipe to add moisture and richness to the muffins. It helps create a tender texture and contributes to the overall flavor of the muffins. Additionally, milk provides the necessary liquid content for the batter, ensuring that it has the right consistency for baking.
All-purpose flour -Ā All-purpose flour is used in this recipe because it provides the right structure and texture for the muffins. It has a moderate protein content, which helps create a tender crumb while still providing enough structure to support the chocolate chips. Additionally, all-purpose flour is readily available and versatile, making it a convenient choice for baking recipes like this one.
Baking powder -Ā Baking powder is used in this recipe as a leavening agent, helping the muffins rise and become light and fluffy. It reacts with the acidic components in the batter, such as sour cream or yogurt, to produce carbon dioxide gas, which creates air bubbles in the batter. These air bubbles expand during baking, causing the muffins to rise. Additionally, baking powder helps the muffins achieve a soft and tender texture.
Salt -Ā Salt is used in this recipe to enhance the flavor of the muffins. It helps balance the sweetness of the sugar and chocolate chips, making the flavors more pronounced. Additionally, salt plays a role in strengthening the gluten structure in the batter, which contributes to the muffins' texture and helps them rise properly.
Blueberries - Blueberries are the perfect choice for this recipe due to their sweet and slightly tart flavor, which complements the fluffy muffin base and crunchy streusel topping. Whether you use fresh or frozen blueberries, they add bursts of juicy goodness to every bite. Frozen blueberries are convenient and can be used straight from the freezer, while fresh blueberries offer a vibrant color and texture.
Streusel topping -Ā A streusel topping is a crumbly mixture typically made from butter, sugar, flour, and cinnamon. It adds a crunchy texture and sweet flavor to baked goods like muffins, coffee cakes, and pies. In this recipe, the streusel topping enhances the muffins by adding a contrast in texture to the soft crumb of the muffin and a burst of sweetness that complements the tartness of the blueberries. It also adds a visually appealing, bakery-style finish to the muffins, making them more enticing and delicious.
What is a crumble topping?
A crumble topping is a mixture of butter, sugar, and flour. When baked, it forms a deliciously crunchy and sweet layer on top of your muffins, adding texture and flavor.
What makes these "bakery style?"
These muffins achieve "bakery style" status through several key characteristics. Firstly, they have a moist and tender crumb, achieved by the addition of sour cream and milk in the batter. Secondly, they contain a generous amount of blueberries, ensuring each bite is bursting with fruit. Finally, the streusel topping adds an extra layer of flavor and texture, elevating them to gourmet status typically found in bakery offerings.
Fresh vs Frozen Blueberries:
Both fresh and frozen blueberries can be used in this recipe, but there are some differences to consider:
Fresh blueberries: Fresh blueberries offer a firm texture and vibrant color. They may be preferred for their appearance and slightly firmer texture in the final muffins. It's important to gently wash and pat them dry before using to prevent excess moisture in the batter.
Frozen blueberries: Frozen blueberries are convenient and can be used straight from the freezer without thawing. They tend to be softer and may release more juice into the batter, potentially giving the muffins a slightly bluer hue. However, they still provide great flavor and can be more economical, especially when fresh blueberries are out of season.

Instructions:
1. Preheat the Oven - Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a standard 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners. This step ensures that your oven is at the right temperature when you're ready to bake.
2. Mix butter & sugar - In a large mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup of melted butter with 1 cup of granulated sugar. Mix them together until well combined and smooth.

3. Add the eggs - Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
4. Add remaining wet ingredients - Stir in 1/2 tablespoon of vanilla extract, 1/3 cup of sour cream, and 1/3 cup of milk. Mix until the batter is smooth and creamy.
5. Prepare the dry ingredients = In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
6. Combine the dry ingredients with the wet batter - Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, folding gently with a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can result in tough muffins.

7. Add the berries - Toss 2 cups of fresh or frozen blueberries with 2 tablespoons of flour until the blueberries are coated. This helps prevent the blueberries from sinking to the bottom of the muffins. Gently fold the floured blueberries into the batter, distributing them evenly.
8. Scoop into pan - Add liners, or oil to a muffin pan. Scoop each muffin 3/4 the way full.
9. Make the streusel topping - To make the streusel topping, combine 3 tablespoons of melted butter with 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour, and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon in a small bowl. Mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

10. Top with streusel - Sprinkle the streusel over the muffin batter, dividing it evenly among the muffin cups.
11. Bake to Perfection - Bake in the preheated oven for:
- Mini muffins: 15-18 minutes
- Standard muffins: 24-26 minutes
- Large muffins: 32-35 minutes
or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean. Allow the muffins to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

12. Cool and Enjoy: After baking, allow the muffins to cool in the pan for 5 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, these Bakery Style Blueberry Muffins are ready to be enjoyed! The combination of moist, fluffy muffins, bursting blueberries, and sweet streusel topping is sure to delight your taste buds.
