Brown butter M&M cookies that are perfect for the holidays.

These cookies are Sunday dinner staple. My little brother is addicted to them & always requests them for our weekly family dinners.
"This is the best cookie I have ever consumed" - Will Harr, a cookie connoisseur
Trust me, you want to take Will's word on this! This cookies are to die for. The secret sauce is the brown butter. I am a firm believer that brown butter makes everything better.
What is brown butter?
Believe it or not-- brown butter is butter that is browned. In order to achieve brown butter, place your butter in sauce pan over medium heat. This process takes anywhere between 5-10 minutes. Make sure you stir the butter throughout so it doesn't burn. Once the butter is successfully browned and smells nutty you are done! Place in a bowl and let it cool down for 10 minutes.
What is the hype about brown butter?
If I have the option (and extra time) I would bake with brown butter for every recipe. It adds a depth of caramel & nutty flavor to your dessert.
Christmas M&M Cookies
Ingredients
You will want this shopping list for the grocery:
1 cup unsalted butter
1 1/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup sugar
1 large egg + 2 egg yolks
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 cups all purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 cup M&Ms (I prefer mini M&Ms for this recipe)
1. Brown the Butter:
In a saucepan over medium heat, brown 1 cup of unsalted butter. Allow it to cool for 10 minutes. This step adds a rich, nutty flavor to elevate your cookies.
2. Mix the Sugars:
Combine the cooled brown butter with 1 1/4 cups of brown sugar and 1/3 cup of granulated sugar. Mix until well incorporated.
3. Add Eggs and Vanilla:
Incorporate 1 whole egg, 2 egg yolks, and 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract into the butter and sugar mixture. This will contribute to the cookies' chewy texture and delightful flavor.
4. Combine Dry Ingredients:
In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Fold these dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a soft cookie dough forms.
5. Mini M&Ms Magic:
Gently fold in 1 1/2 cups of mini M&Ms, ensuring an even distribution of these colorful and delicious bites throughout the dough.
6. Chill and Bake:
Refrigerate the cookie dough for at least 30 minutes. This chilling step enhances the flavors and helps create a chewy texture. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
7. Cooling Grace:
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking tray for 10 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack. This ensures a perfect balance of soft and chewy centers.
